Logitech’s Logi ZeroTouch will make your ordinary car a connected car
Texting and driving is a major cause of motor vehicle accidents nowadays. Mobile phones and vehicles are a lethal and dangerous combination and it is illegal and frowned upon to use your cellphone while driving, but many commuters still do it. An estimated 26 percent of motorists still use their mobile phones while commuting, even when they are aware of the dangers and the grave consequences related to it.
Many companies have attempted to bring forward a solution for this problem by providing phone mounts and hands-free technology. The latest and the most innovative solution is by Logitech, a brand well known for their high quality keyboards, mice and other peripherals. Logi ZeroTouch is a smartphone mount that is available in two styles, a dashboard mount and a vent mount variant. Android phones can be mounted on these mounts and allow you hands-free operation and control of Voice calls, Text messaging, Maps and Music player while driving.
An application for the ZeroTouch automatically detects your Android device when it is placed on the mount and opens up ,allowing you to interact with the device using hand gestures or voice commands. This plug and play connectivity eliminates any setup to get your phone connected. The ZeroTouch is aimed towards drivers who don’t want to buy a new connected car and want the technology on their already existing vehicles.
“New car owners can experience the luxury of a connected car, but there are still tens of millions of older cars on the road,” Bracken Darrell, Logitech president and chief executive officer, said. “As we look for ways to design products that are thoughtful solutions to human needs, we realized there was an opportunity to turn any car into a connected car. The result is the Logi ZeroTouch. The smart mount and app work together to give you the best features of a connected car, while keeping your eyes on the road. We believe ZeroTouch will play a crucial role in turning the look down and text, into the look up and talk.”
The free companion application will respond to a “High Five” hand gesture and you can use it to launch “Talk 2 Text” which is a speech to text and text to speech function. The application also supports other third party application integration including Spotify, Whatsapp, Facebook, Messenger and Google Hangouts.
The Air-vent model is priced at $59, latches onto the vents of the air conditioner and is available in Black, Red and White colors. The Dashboard mount is available in Black only, with a price tag of $79 and utilizes a suction cup to hold onto the dash of your car, you can also stick it on the windscreen if you feel like.
The system will connect to your car’s music system via Bluetooth. The mounts are magnetic in nature and there will be a small yet thin pad on the back of your smartphone that will enable it to be mounted to the ZeroTouch cradle. All you need is to download the free ZeroTouch app, place the phone on the mount and you are good to go. It is available for Android devices only, for the time being.
