OnePlus 3 official render leaked; shows a metal body design
The successor to the OnePlus 2 is coming out in the next month and it’s is going for a fresh new look. Leaked press render show the OnePlus 3 with a metal body construction and USB Type-C port. This move confirms that the brand is moving away from its replaceable plastic rear panel design to a more solid and refined design for their reasonably priced “flagship killer” devices.
The leaked images portray a slim smartphone with a curved metallic back branded with the OnePlus logo and sporting a 3.5mm audio jack. Evan Blass (@evleaks) posted the press render images claiming that it is of the upcoming OnePlus flagship device, the OnePlus 3. The device is going to be something to keep an eye out for, with a bigger battery, loads of RAM and processing power.
OnePlus 2 was a bit of a letdown after the company set such high standards with their debut handset, the OnePlus One which was labeled as the “flagship killer” by many. Their next device, the OnePlus X wasn’t able to make a big impact on the market like the OnePlus One, but it did faired better than the OnePlus 2. With the OnePlus 3, we can expect the company to do something astonishing in terms of stuffing high end technologies into a much improved exterior body.
Rumors and speculations about the upcoming device suggest that the OnePlus 3 will be equipped with a 5.5 inch Full HD display, 16MP rear camera and powered by a 2.2 GHz SnapDragon 820 SOC processor. Evan Blass claimed that the handset will have an AMOLED display and a 3,000 mAh battery, something that might be a bit of a downgrade since the OnePlus 2 had a 3,300 mAh battery.
OnePlus 3 is rumored to be released in two variants, a smaller 5 inch screen handset and a larger 5.5 inch screen device. There will be two specifications in terms of RAM and storage options to choose from. The smaller 5 inch device will be supporting 32GB of built-in storage and will have 4GB RAM to keep things smooth. The larger 5.5 inch device will be some kind of a RAM-monster with a whooping 6GB RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage space.
From the leaked images, it is evident that there is a physical home button on the front of the handset. Evan Blass also said that the home button houses a fingerprint scanner and is surrounded by a pill shaped metallic ring. The rendered images also show antenna lines on the back of the metal unibody design, something that is found on almost all major Android smartphones nowadays. By the T-shaped antenna bands, the device is expected to have NFC which was skipped on their previous device.
Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus stated that the device will be launching sometime in late Q2, by June according to reports. He said that the phone will have a new design that will captivate consumers like the way the first OnePlus One did. The handset will be running an updated Android Marshmallow based version of Oxygen Operating System. The device is also expected to have Gorilla Corning Glass 4 protection. No official launch date has been confirmed so far.
