ASUS launches Zenfone 3, Zenfone 3 Ultra and Zenfone 3 Deluxe
At this year’s Computex, the Taiwanese giant ASUS announced 3 brand new smartphones, forming the Zenfone 3 family and running Android 6 Marshmallow Operating System. With Intel backing out from the smartphone business, the Zenfone 3 smartphones will be now sporting Qualcomm SnapDragon processor chips instead of the Intel Atom processor chips. The company unveiled 3 variants of the Zenfone 3, namely the Zenfone 3 Ultra, Zenfone 3 Deluxe and Zenfone 3.
The new Zenfone 3 series smartphones feature an all new metal unibody design that has no antenna bands making them the first all-metal smartphones to feature such a design. The Zenfone 3 is the regular smartphone with great looks and few “special features” at a very affordable price, the Zenfone 3 Deluxe is the new flagship model, with tons of RAM and a much better camera, lastly the Zenfone 3 Ultra, a behemoth of a phablet focused on entertainment.
The Zenfone 3 is the smallest of the lot, featuring a 5.5 inch Full HD LCD display, powered by Qualcomm SnapDragon 625 processor and 4GB RAM. The camera on the rear is a 16MP snapper with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and laser auto focus. On the front, it has a 8MP camera and f/2.0 lens. The battery is 3,000 mAh and you can choose between two storage options. The 32GB base model is priced at $249 and has 3GB Ram, for the 64GB model with 4GB RAM the price will be $299. The Zenfone 3 has Gorilla Corning glass on both sides and is the best looking smartphone from the new Zenfone 3 series.
The Zenfone 3 Deluxe is the flagship model and features an “always-on” option. It has a 5.7 inch Full HD Super AMOLED display and powered by the powerful Qualcomm SnapDragon 820 processor. The phone is loaded with RAM, with the option of 6GB RAM, it is bound to put other flagship devices to shame. ASUS has went all out with the camera as well. The Zenfone 3 Deluxe has a massive 23MP rear camera with OIS and sapphire glass protection. The battery is 3,000 mAh, like its smaller sibling and so is the 8MP front camera. The device will be available with 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options and will support Quick Charge 3.0 which promises up to 70% charge in just 40 minutes. The Zenfone 3 Deluxe will priced from $499 and has a full metal unibody design.
The largest of the Zenfone 3 family is the Zenfone 3 Ultra. With a massive 6.8 inch Full HD IPS LCD display, it is more of a tablet than a smartphone or even a phablet. It doesn’t feature the high end Qualcomm SnapDragon 820 processor but the Qualcomm SnapDragon 625 processor bundled with 4GB RAM. The rear camera is the 23MP Sony IMX318 sensor and the front is 8MP. The Zenfone 3 Ultra has a TV grade processor for optimized 4K video playback. The battery is a huge 4,600 mAh which is also capable of reverse charging other devices. Quick Charge 3.0 is also supported and it can be charged up to 60% in 45 minutes. The phablet is priced at somewhat relatively cheaper price of $479.
All three devices have fingerprint scanners, ASUS’ TriTech auto-focus system and USB Type C ports. ASUS has not yet provided any information regarding the release dates of these smartphones.
